WPCandy R.I.P Or Phoenix like who knows?
I wrote a review for WPCandy some time ago now on WooCommerce (waaayyy back) and out of interest I went to have a look at the site etc. Well it’s gone, to some of you who remember and for those who do not, WPCandy was quite a promising website packed full of info on WordPress and was a good read.
With regular podcasts, interviews, news and more at one point it was the go to place to find out interesting news about WordPress in general. It’s gone though, disappeared into the ether by all accounts. There was a rumor that it had in fact been sold one which was rebuffed by WPCandy on Twitter.
Nobody bought WPCandy. As far as we can tell someone made a joke on Twitter that was reported on as news. WPCandy (@wpcandy) August 12, 2013
Ironically enough, this was the last tweet to have come from WPCandy and was in fact on the 12th of August 2013. Does anyone actually know what happened to WPCandy? It just seems to have slipped off of the face of the Earth. A real shame as I used to enjoy dipping into WPCandy and see what was happening in the world of WP, and have dealt with Ryan over email he always seemed to be a stand up guy with big plans for the blog.
Ryan even launched a print version of some of his content called the WP Quarterly which was well revered by it’s readers as well as T-shirts and more. It looked like it was on the verge of being an established brand. Then poof gone.
At it’s heyday WPCandy pulled in a formidable audience and would often spark debate not in a contentious way you understand but got everyone involved in the conversation. Again it’s a massive shame and I for one miss it.
Scant info on Ryan’s personal website
Researching this further I did manage to find a list of domains Ryan was looking to sell on his personal blog entitled ‘I’m looking to sell a few domains’. There is more than a few there, plus this post was back in March 2013 and the last one on his site.
Ryan did have a network of training websites on the Gooroo network however this yielded yet another blank with this site has a landing page full of ads, the standard one you come across.
I have been scouring the web and cannot find anything of substance. Does anyone have any hard facts about what is going on and the future of WPCandy? A quick whois reveals he still owns the domain name, I just hope he does something with it.
