The MiwoShop eCommerce Plugin Review

MiwoShop is a brand new eCommerce plugin for WordPress available on CodeCanyon. It comes in at $59.00 so it’s not exactly cheap however boasting a load of features as standard compared to other solutions such as WooCommerce it would appear on face value to be an investment as such.

Don’t worry about parting with your hard earned cash just yet, this review will guide you through everything from install to features and I will deliver a no nonsense verdict.

What Can You Expect From MiwoShop?

That’s A Boat Load Of Features

Yes you would be right, that is on face value everything that some WordPress eCommerce plugins would offer right off the bat (in an ideal world). However these features take time to implement and of course deliver.

Plugin developers have to recoup their initial investment of time and effort no one can deny that. However simple things like shipping methods and payment methods should be implemented and bundled with the plugin in the first place, not as a bolt on. Rant over.

Installing MiwoShop Plugin

It installs as any other plugin does, either via FTP or via the WordPress back-end.That was hard. What you will notice now is in the WordPress back-end a new menu system cunningly entitled “MiwoShop” which is where your new shop resides. The plugin does actually create a page called ‘Shop’ for you and fills it in with the shortcode needed to display the shop.

Welcome To Your Shop Interface

After you have clicked on the menu in the WP admin you will be greeted with the above and of course a menu in your admin menu. In fairness the MiwoShop interface does everything the WP admin menu links to anyway.

So let’s take a look around shall we?

No hang on isn’t this a little familiar? I remember seeing something like this before? Yes I know what this is! It’s OpenCart (well a bridge or implementation at the very least) So technically it’s not ‘actually’ part of WordPress. Irrespective of the implementation it is in essence a bridge between your WordPress powered website and a version of OpenCart.

I Have No Problem With That!

OpenCart is a fantastic open source eCommerce solution used by countless store owners the world over. Am I disappointed? Maybe a little, maybe not. Depends on how she rides.

That Explains The Rich Feature Set Then

Yes it does doesn’t it? I mean all those features? I mean come on that must have taken ages to implement! Well it certainly took the original developers of OpenCart ages to develop.

Lets Not Piss On Anyone’s Bonfire Just Yet

It’s easy to be dismissive of this now the proverbial cat has been let out of the bag. However this developer has married two fantastic platforms together. Surely this otherworldly unison should be manna from heaven?

MiwiShop Product Page

MiwiShop Product Listing

As you can see from the image above the template it’s using is the staple one that OpenCart comes with. There’s nothing wrong with that. However it is worth noting that if you have a sidebar activated this will in fact shrink the shop page down even further. See above for an example.

Taking The Viewpoint As A Potential Customer

You have to address this, it’s all well and good that an eCommerce platform has tons of features. However they are useless without the potential buying public being able to use the shopping cart.

Does It Fair Well In This Department?

Well registering for an account is a simple affair, I signed up for an account and entered my details in and was done in a jiffy.

The plugin creates a user in your WordPress back-end at subscriber level, also worth noting that if you are looking to use this plugin disable the WordPress floating nav bar for logged in users as I was able to access the admin section (with limited capabilities might I add.)

It works fine as a customer and it’s easy to use from a buyers perspective.

Vouchers, Discounts, Business To Business

Customers are taken care of with vouchers, discounts a business to business function and more. Your able to create pricing per customer group, so if you sell B2B or wholesale whatever you need, you can allocate specific pricing to each product. Or add a discount store wide for a specific user group.

Couple that with a handy email sign up form on registering to keep your customers in the loop it’s all good.

Built In Affiliate System

MiwoShop comes with the standard affiliate system integrated into Opencart as standard so you can approve affiliates, upload banners and they have access to their own stats etc.

This is all well and good and will help you secure more custom through reputable affiliates. But choose them wisely!

Plenty Of Features

Everything is covered you have a returns system, email newsletter system that integrates with WordPress and a whole lot more.

Multi-store functionality is possible according to the documentation(yes it does come with some) however I have not tested this function. However I am pretty sure it will use the existing OpenCart way of doing things. As after all this is effectively OpenCart.

6.4 Total Score
MiwoShop eCommerce Plugin Review

It’s true MiwoShop is a clever implementation of OpenCart into WordPress there is no denying that. However this would not be a faithful review with out going over the positives and of course the negatives.

PROS
  • Clever implementation
  • Incredibly feature rich (it is OpenCart after all)
  • Relatively easy to use
  • Those who use OpenCart already will find this an absolute breeze
  • Easy to use as a customer
CONS
  • No support for SEO plugins such as WordPress SEO or All In One due to the nature of the system. It does have the native OpenCart one. This may not be enough for some.
  • It’s not WordPress, those used to WP’s ease of use may struggle
  • Design – it’s all based on TPL files accessed from the admin meaning you will have to dig in to make changes as simple as changing the color etc
  • It’s an entirely different eCommerce system those used to WooCommerece may find it a stark contrast.
